Teachers’ annual salaries in basic education levels, from payroll information in 2010: Thailand had lower salary rates than Malaysia and even 5 times lower than Korea.
In Thailand Teachers’ annual salaries in every level were equal (primary, lower secondary, upper secondary – general program). The starting salary of a new teacher was 5,272 PPP$ and would increase to 11,182 PPP$ after working for 15 years. The highest rate was 18,957 PPP$, same as the Philippines. Thailand’s salary rates of 3 educational levels were higher than those of Indonesia, but lower than those of several countries such as Korea, Japan, and Australia.
